Five people joined me for a hike up to the Jewel Basin on September 22, during part of the season offering peak diversity and abundance of migrant raptors. And while it was not one of our highest count days (71 total birds), attendees joined counter Dan Stoken “at the owl”, to record a nice mix of eight species, including four Broad-winged Hawks, Sharp-shinned and Cooper’s Hawks, an American Goshawk, and a Golden Eagle.
One attendee even returned on October 14to help me count 134 birds, including 64 Golden Eagles! Jewel Basin Hawk Watch fever…catch it!
