Flathead Lake State Park (FHLSP), Flathead Lake Biological Station (FLBS) and Flathead Audubon Society (FAS) are hosting a series of Jr. Ranger To-Go Kits this winter. These kits will cover birds, owls, snow science, and winter’s effects on forest/lake ecology.
The kits will rotate topics every other week starting December 5th and the last set will be handed out starting March 27th. Each Jr. Ranger To Go Kit will be available for two weeks. This year, after a Jr. Ranger completes four kits they will be given a prize. Details for how to win your prize is in the kits.
Schedule for the kits is:
December 5th: Ducks
December 19th: Snow ranger
January 2nd: Winter Scientist
January 16th: Raptors
January 30th: Hibernation
February 13th: Fall in Love with Flathead Lake
February 27th: Owls
March 13th: Winter Lake Ecology
March 27th: Gearing up for Spring
The kits will be available on a first come first serve throughout the two-week period.
Each kit will have lesson plans, activities and materials provided and are great for grades 2nd through 6th. Supplies are limited, one kit is available per household.
You can pick up your kit from:
- Wayfarers Unit of Flathead Lake State Park anytime. The kits will be in a bin outside the Ranger Station.
- Columbia Falls Library: Open for pickup Monday to Friday 10am – 6pm and Saturday 10am – 2pm.
- Polson Library: Open for pickup Monday through Friday, 9am – 6pm; Saturdays 9am – 4pm.
- Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks Regional Head Quarters at 490 N Meridian in Kalispell: Monday to Friday 8 AM to 5 PM.
