Snow is falling from the valley floor to the ridgetop as I prepare this update, and I am hoping that our 18th season is not coming to a premature end. But, should that be the case, it has been a highly successful season by all measures. Our 292 hours of surveys over 41 days thus far have recorded 3,156 raptors of 17 species, our fifth highest season total in 18 years. We have recorded above-average numbers of 13 species (indicated in bold below), including record numbers of Broad-winged Hawks (79) and Peregrine Falcons (24). Along the way we recorded our 24,000th Sharp-shinned Hawk and 50,000th raptor over the history of the count. Whether or not we are done for the season, many thanks to all who have served as primary counters and support observers, helping to tally the following totals:
