Project FeederWatch is a citizen science project operated by the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology. It’s a November 1-April 30 survey of birds. You don’t even need a feeder! You may watch birds in any location you choose, and the schedule is completely flexible: you can count every week or once all winter, for as many or as few times as you like.
The counts help scientists track broad scale movements of winter bird populations and long-term trends in bird distribution and abundance. This is the perfect project for anyone who likes birds and wants to contribute and share information about birds with fellow bird enthusiasts and scientists. Counting birds is as easy as 1-2-3. Choose a site. Count the birds that visit. Enter your data online. To join, visit https://feederwatch.org. There is an annual participation fee of $18 to cover the costs of the project.
