Fall Work Day at Owen Sowerwine
September 20, 2025 @ 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Help Us Take Back Our Native Plants!
Join us in tackling the invasive common buckthorn, a shrub that’s crowding out native vegetation at Owen Sowerwine.
We’ll meet in the parking lot of Montessori (349 Willow Glen Drive). From there, one group will head to the Treasure entrance, and another will walk to the Education Trail to target young buckthorn plants.
The work involves cutting small seedlings (¼”–1” diameter) and applying a glyphosate solution to the cut stems using dauber bottles (provided). Please bring sturdy hand nippers (or loppers, if you prefer) and wear gloves. Since the plants are small, you might also want a foam pad for kneeling or sitting. Most teams will work in groups of three—two cutters and one dauber.
Dress for the weather, bring a water bottle, and enjoy a snack bar at the start.
If you arrive late—no problem! It’s easy to find us; just contact Pam to join in.
