Peeps from the President – October 2024

By Darcy Thomas

I love birds. Birds are everywhere, so you can be delighted by them most anywhere you are. They are colorful and gorgeous. Their behavior is fascinating to study and observe. They fill the air with music.

As much as I love birds, I find my enjoyment of them grows when I can engage in projects that help protect them and the places in which they live. Being part of Flathead Audubon brings my life purpose because I feel like I am part of something bigger than myself. And nothing is better than working with a group of like-minded, dedicated individuals who selflessly give hours of their time for a single worthwhile purpose. The great people who make up the Executive Committee, Board of Directors, other committees, and all the member volunteers who work quietly on chapter business without seeking recognition. They don’t expect thanks. They do it because they believe in it. They feel strongly that the natural world and its inhabitants are worth working hard for.

Though these great people do not seek acknowledgment they deserve to be thanked and appreciated. As the current President of this amazing organization, I want you to know that I notice what you do. I am deeply grateful and proud to stand alongside you. As we look forward to the great work of advocating for our feathered friends and their habitats, please accept my sincerest thanks.

Kudos!

Pam Willison you are awesome and we love you! You dedicate so much of your time for the bird and native plant life at Owen Sowerwine. The new bridges are going to be so nice to step on and cross. Thank you for keeping us safe as we enjoy nature. Also, thank you for stepping up to become Vice President of the Flathead Audubon Society. We are overjoyed!

Denny Olson deserves a slap on the back for organizing another hugely successful Birds of Prey Festival. You may not know it, but he almost puts the festival together single-handedly up until the day of the event. It’s a big job and a job well done. Thanks Denny!
