December 2024 Program – Birds are Amazing!

Presented by Laura Katzman, Flathead Land Trust

Laura Katzman

Laura’s presentation will illustrate the amazing physical, physiological, and behavioral adaptations of birds and will inspire you and your appreciation of birds. It will also give you an idea of what seventh graders hear as part of Flathead Land Trust’s Bird Education Program, developed with Denny Olson and Montana Fish Wildlife & Parks (MFWP) to fit into the 7th grade science curriculum. The presentation will demonstrate information that is fun for all ages and will include an update of Flathead Land Trust’s work, including increasing the pace of land conservation in the Mission Valley.

Originally from Wisconsin, Laura received her B.S. degree in Biology and Natural Resource Management: Environmental Education & Interpretation. She worked doing environmental education early in her career and always had an interest in birds – volunteering to do a lot of bird related work. She was also involved in seasonal fisheries work, earned a master’s degree from Montana State University in Fish and Wildlife Management, and was a Fish Biologist with MFWP for a few years. She moved to the Flathead in 2008 and in 2010 began working with Flathead Land Trust. She’s been responsible for the Bird Education program for six years.

Our meetings are available both in person and virtually. For those attending the meeting in person on November 11th, we’ll meet in Room 26 of the Gateway Community Center at 7pm. This room is located on the east side of the building along Glenwood Drive. Look for our banner outside.

For those joining virtually, when you use the link, you will be let into a “waiting room” where you will then be added to the meeting by the host. Please sign in with your name when you enter the room, so we know to admit you. You will be muted when you first join the meeting. You can use your computer’s microphone and speakers (most computers have both). This is the preferred way to join. You can also get an audio connection to the meeting without the Zoom capability by using your phone. For more information on how to attend by Zoom, or how to get an audio connection by phone, contact info@flatheadaudubon.org.
