Flathead Audubon Society (FAS) is approaching its 50th Birthday! We are planning a big celebration, and you can help.

FAS took shape back in 1977 when it emerged from the Bigfork Bird Club. This makes 2027 our half-century mark and a milestone well worth celebrating!

We will also be celebrating 50 years of accomplishments – 50 years of sharing and celebrating birds, advocating conservation of birds and their habitat, and advocating for science and education.

Our Flathead Audubon 50th Anniversary committee consists of four members: Linda Winnie, Linda Du Lac, Karen Nichols and me. Together we have been planning a special publication that will encapsulate the organization’s history and accomplishments, with an eye toward inspiring today’s generation for the next 50 years of success.

Would you like to help? Great! Here are some ideas:

  • If you have memories or documents from the early days or important landmarks of Flathead Audubon, please let us know!
  • If you would like to join our committee or contribute to our publication, you are welcome.
  • Do you have photographs or other images from past gatherings or events involving Flathead Audubon? We would love it if you would share them.
  • Stay tuned to upcoming issues of the Pileated Post for short highlights from Flathead Audubon’s first 50 years, and for more news about the celebration and how you can help.

FAS is more than just a conservation group. We are a community, knitted together by shared joy in nature and mutual love for this amazing landscape. By building on our past successes, we can ensure the best is still to come.
