Highlights from the September 3, 2024 Board of Directors Meeting
- Rod reviewed the 9/1/24 financial report covering revenue, expenses, and investments. The Board accepted a motion and approved.
- Denny said the Birds of Prey Festival is on track and planning is complete with a lineup of volunteers.
- Jake reminded everyone that all press releases should go through him before they are issued.
- The May elections were accepted and approved as written.
- Denny will submit a report using Keanu’s Owen Sowerwine’s buckthorn and deer exposure study data. Although Keanu has left for college, the buckthorn study will continue through either the new O/E position or Pam.
- The Conservation Committee has been busy responding to several conservation activities that may affect birds, including the Bureau of Land Management’s Sage Grouse plan.
- The Jewel Basin Hawk Watch is up and running with observers using a new tracking program called Trektellen, which will standardize data from other Hawk Watch sites.
- All paperwork for the Owen Sowerwine Conservation Easement is done.
- The monthly summer birding field trips for kids were successful with good turnouts. We will continue to offer once-a-month kids events. It was agreed to drop Kids’ Corner from the newsletter and put our efforts into field trips.
- FAS has printed the “Making Your Home Safe for Birds” brochure to be handed out on field trips and events.
We could use your help.
If you have vintage photos of Flathead Audubon Society members that you can share with the History Committee, please contact linda@flatheadaudubon.org
We also need volunteers for our Education Committee. These individuals would help with the learning kits and events. Please contact darcy@flatheadaudubon.org if interested.
We need writers for the Bird of The Month column in the Pileated Post newsletter. Please contact Darcy at the above email for this as well.
It takes many hands to run an Audubon Chapter, and it is fulfilling and fun!
