Neighbors, supporters, and partners of the Alvord Lake Community Forest Project gathered July 8 at Alvord Lake’s Outdoor Classroom near Troy, MT, to celebrate the Vital Ground Foundation’s completion of the project and the establishment of this unique Community Forest. FAS had organized a carpool from Kalispell for those travelling to the Celebration from the Flathead.
Participants were treated to a joint Flathead Audubon/Montana Loon Society biding trip on the 3-mile Alvord Lake loop trail, led by Steve Gniadek and Lynn Kelly. And many enjoyed browsing the informational tables on birds and loons provided by Flathead Audubon and the Montana Loon Society. The Celebration culminated in presentations recounting the history of the project and dedicating this new Community Forest. According to several FAS members who participated in the Celebration, the speeches were enhanced by the call of the Alvord Lake loons and a fly-over by a Bald Eagle.
