Dr. David Manuwal, who has studied birds in the western US for over 60 years, will be the featured speaker at the Monday, September 12 meeting of the Flathead Audubon Society at 7 PM. The program will be available on ZOOM. Information to join is below.
Dave’s presentation will cover his research on birds in the Noatak National Preserve, Alaska. He found 119 breeding species of which several had old-world affinities such as the Yellow-billed Loon, Bartailed Godwit, Gray-headed Chickadee, Wheatear, Arctic Warbler, Bluethroat, and Yellow Wagtail. Dave received his undergraduate degree in wildlife conservation from Purdue University and a Master’s degree working with Dick Taber at the University of Montana. He received a PhD studying marine birds at UCLA. Dave taught and conducted bird research for 41 years at the University of Washington’s School of Environmental and Forest Sciences and retired in 2013 as Emeritus Professor of Wildlife Science. He has taught a bird course at Flathead Valley Community College. He now resides in the Kalispell area with his wife Naomi.
