FLATHEAD AUDUBON OFFERS RAPTOR IDENTIFICATION WORKSHOP

September 17, 2021 @ 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM

free

Hawks and eagles are on the move!  Flathead Audubon is offering a FREE identification workshop on Friday evening, September 17th, at 6:30 PM, at the Lone Pine State Park outdoor pavilion in Kalispell. FAS Conservation Educator, Denny Olson, will conduct a training workshop on recognizing fall migrating birds of prey the way you usually see them — in the air, and from below. Denny has developed full-sized laminated silhouettes of 27 different flying birds of prey that will teach you about what to look for — shape, flying patterns, contrast, and color.

Everyone attending the workshop will receive a “key” to narrow your sighting to the exact bird you observe. If you wish, you can take a quiz after some practice and win some cool bird-related prizes. To register, contact educator@flatheadaudubon.org  or call 249-3987. Masks are strongly encouraged and the group will practice socially distancing.

If you want more practice, visit our Jewel Basin Hawk Watch site on the North Mt, Aeneas ridge, where thousands of migrating hawks, falcons and eagles are counted every fall! Here you can see migrating birds up close and personal!

The program is free and open to the public.
