Why are dark skies so important? Last night we were honored to have local photographer and long time Flathead Audubon Member John Ashley tell us. Through his presentation, he showed his wonderful photography of our night skies and told the story of the encroaching light.
With initiatives like dark sky designation, turning off lights where we can, and changing light fixtures and bulbs, we can regain some of what has been lost. The importance is not only for the enjoyment of seeing the larger universe, but for birds in migration and our own health.
John has come out with a wonderful book with his stunning photographs he’s been taking of the night sky for the last 28 years. Visit his website to purchase or find out more about him and his work at http://www.johnashleyfineart.com/.
