At our January 2024 General Meeting, Jami Belt, Dee Baginski, and Jess Garby of Glacier National Park discussed what they’ve learned in years of monitoring Common Loons and Golden Eagles through their citizen science programs. From loon nest monitoring and banding for Common Loons as well as fall hawk watch migration counts for Golden Eagles, they are able to track population trends, nest survival rates and a whole lot more.

If you’d like to get involved in Glacier’s Citizen Science Program, visit their site (https://www.nps.gov/rlc/crown/citizen-science.htm) and drop them an email by following a link on that page.

Also check out Glacier’s Story Maps Page to find out more about these and other projects in the park.
